Ponmudi-The Golden Peak of Western Ghats

It is situated at an altitude of 3,000 feet, it offers a beautiful view of hilly retreat is the most scenic. In winter we can enjoy the clear view of waves of rolling hills which encompass the western ghats. Another attraction of the ponmudi is meenmuty-Kallar waterfall, it is situated 3 km away from ponmudi base. This part is covered with dense forest and can be reached, waterfall, falls over the boulders to form a large pool. Then cold water flowing through rocks is a exciting view. Kallar is also a popular destination for all travellers and a famous birdwatching spot. The main highlight here is the gushing water of Kallar River, perfect place for a dip. Also, the place is scattered with golden-hued stones and pebbles which can be the reason behind the name of this place.

Ponmudi is home to Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, rich in flora, fauna and rich with wildlife. The commonly spotted animals here are the elephant, leopard, sloth bear, sambar, Nilgiri langur, and macaques. A stop at Bonacaud is highly recommended, it has forests, waterfalls, streams and tea plantations. Bonacaud is the base for the popular trek to Agasthyakoodam Peak – the second highest peak in Kerala. It is situated at an altitude of 6,128 feet, the trek to Agasthyakoodam is done over two days.

PONMUDI OFFERS BEAUTIFUL TREKKING route such as Varayadumotta, seethatheertham, Manachala, Maruthwamala.


Varayamuttom is the most popular trekking route in ponmudi offers the panoramic view of the hills along with Nilgiri Thar. Nilgiri Thar is known as Varayadu, we can see Thar near this place. It is a full day long trekking program and climbing the mountain 1100m high and exploring the mysteries of nature. The base of the trek is the shola forest which is beautiful and evergreen.


Trekking to the stream of Seethatheertham in Ponmudi is a 4 km trekking programme ponmudi. We can find the ruins of temples and can also see the footprints of Goddess Seetha, and once the goddess satiated her thirst in this river as it is believed by the locals. The herds of elephants and gaurs can be spotted here.


Manachala is a 6 km trekking programme to the base camp of Varayadumotta Peak organized by Ponmudi Ecotourism. A guide will accompany You during trekking.
